Hanifa Haris is a strategy-led Creative Director specializing in photography, art direction, and visual storytelling, with over two decades of experience shaping global campaigns across editorial, brand, product, and social platforms.
Her work is grounded in a deep understanding of how images function as cultural force, shaping perception, influencing behavior, and building connection. With a background in service design, she brings a systems-driven approach to creative leadership, building brands through emotional resonance, clarity, and cultural relevance. Her work focuses on turning audiences into communities and communities into sustained engagement, with a sharp instinct for the zeitgeist and how culture moves.
Hanifa has led 360° campaigns spanning product marketing, experiential activations, and influencer-driven storytelling. She has held roles at leading global brands including Netflix, Airbnb, and Verizon, where she developed work that drove both cultural and business impact. At Netflix, she led photography campaigns across seven continents and more than 20 global titles, shaping narratives that resonated across diverse markets. At Airbnb, she contributed to global creative strategies reaching over 625 million people. At Verizon, she played a key role in evolving the brand’s visual identity, shifting toward more human, story-driven imagery that contributed to increased sales and deeper consumer connection.
Across each of these roles, Hanifa has built and implemented equity-focused initiatives within creative and production ecosystems, expanding access, representation, and opportunity for historically excluded talent. She began her career in editorial, with experience at TIME Magazine, Smithsonian, Inc., Rolling Stone, and Al Jazeera, where she developed a strong foundation in narrative, reporting, and visual storytelling. This multidisciplinary background informs her ability to lead end-to-end creative processes, from concept through execution, with both strategic rigor and creative depth.
Hanifa’s perspective is shaped by growing up between Pakistan and Brooklyn, navigating multiple cultures, languages, and systems of belonging. This lived experience informs her approach to conscientious storytelling and her focus on building brands that lead with empathy, intention, and community.
In addition to her commercial work, Hanifa has taught fashion photography at Parsons School of Design and maintains an ongoing fine art practice. Her personal work is rooted in history, examining how narrative, both personal and political, is archived and creating visual dialogues that interrogate representation, memory, and power.
